Wisconsin One of Seven States Involved Credit Card Scheme

Six California residents were indicted by a grand jury for using fake credit cards to get cash and merchandise in seven states – including Wisconsin.

The Associated Press reports:

Prosecutors said the cards were used in Colorado, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Utah and Wisconsin. The indictment includes allegations involving only Colorado banks and businesses.

Members of the group got a toll-free number and printed it on the back of the cards, authorities said. When bank or business employees couldn’t authenticate the card, they called the number, which was answered by members of the group, officials said.
