The Better Business Bureau says criminals are using incentives to get consumers to fall for their scams. Many involve participation in a political survey. The BBB says scam artists use information heavily publicized in the news to make their claims sound more legitimate.
Here are a few red flags:
- The caller asks to verify your voter registration
- The caller offers a prize for participation
- The caller asks for your social security or credit card number
- The caller seems to be using a high pressure tone of voice
